Decision / verdict. Use this 7-step reverse-maintenance procedure only when a DC-string must be opened on EU soil (typically because of an IR-test failure, visible connector damage, or a confirmed WEEE classification under Directive 2012/19/EU). If the pallet is still sealed and the goods are not damaged, route via standard re-booking on the next consolidation and do not open the container. Equipment scope: PV DC-strings terminated with the Staubli MC4 / MC4-Evo 2 connector family, mounted with K2 Systems SingleRail or SolidRail kits, and paired with inverters from Sungrow, Huawei FusionSolar, or Growatt families. Location: EU bonded yard → optional rework site → re-export or WEEE stream. Horizon: ~14 working days from B/L acceptance to TMS close-out (indicative, not contractual). Evidence date: 2026-09-22. Limitation: this is a process SOP, not a certification scheme; no third-party endorsement, "No.1", or rankings are implied.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Open the container in the EU? | Yes, if IR test fails or WEEE applies. No, if pallet is intact — re-book instead. |
| Trigger condition | Insulation-resistance failure per IEC 62446-1:2016 / IEC 61215-2:2016, or scrap classification per Directive 2012/19/EU. |
| Number of steps | 7 (B/L → yard inspection → torque + IR → form → decision → customs file → re-dispatch). |
| Indicative horizon | ~14 working days (P14D in JSON-LD). |
| Cert / third-party endorsement | None. This page is not a certification and does not stand in for IEC or UL marks. |
| RFQ endpoint | tradvolt.com/rfq/ (live form). |
This SOP covers the maintenance and document flow applied when a DC-string assembly (a series chain of PV modules terminated at a combiner or inverter) must be opened after arrival in the EU and either repaired on site, returned to China, or scrapped under WEEE rules. It assumes the reader works with a named customs broker, a named freight forwarder, and a named OEM service desk. The page is a process guide — it is not a certification scheme and confers no compliance mark on the operator.
| Step# | Action | Owner | Input doc | Output doc | Done-when |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Receive inbound shipment file from the forwarder and reconcile containers against the booking. | Customs broker (EU side) | Bill of Lading (B/L); Booking confirmation | Reception log entry in TMS | Seal numbers logged and B/L accepted per ICC Incoterms 2020 documentary rules |
| 2 | Open the container at the bonded yard and run a visual inspection on each DC-string pallet; check ISPM 15 mark on wood packaging. | Yard inspector | Packing list; Container Manifest | Inspection sheet with photos | Each pallet photographed and tagged; ISPM 15 mark verified per IPPC ISPM 15 |
| 3 | Apply torque checks on Staubli MC4 / MC4-Evo 2 connectors and run an insulation-resistance (IR) test. | OEM-trained technician | Trolley torque log; IR tester calibration file | Torque + IR record sheet | Values recorded in MΩ and Nm against the OEM datasheet (Staubli MC4 / MC4-Evo 2) and the IEC 61215-2:2016 / IEC 62446-1:2016 thresholds |
| 4 | Log findings in the maintenance form (CMF-R14) and attach all photos to the dossier. | Service coordinator | Inspection sheet; Torque + IR record sheet | Maintenance form (CMF-R14) | Form signed by technician and counter-signed by QA lead |
| 5 | Trigger the reverse logistics decision: rework, return, or scrap. | Project owner / client rep | Maintenance form (CMF-R14) | Decision memo with cost-impact note | Decision recorded and circulated to broker + forwarder; scrap path references Directive 2012/19/EU |
| 6 | If return or scrap is chosen, compile the re-export or destruction file. | Customs broker | Decision memo; Repair invoice (if rework) | Re-export declaration; WEEE handover note (if scrap) | Customs declaration accepted in the EU CDS; HS code verified against EU TARIC consultation |
| 7 | For rework, dispatch the revised shipment on the next CN→EU consolidation and close the case in the TMS. | Forwarder + service coordinator | Decision memo; New B/L draft | Booking confirmation; Close-out note | Case closed in TMS |

For step 3, the connector family is the Staubli MC4 and MC4-Evo 2 product line (publicly marketed; datasheets on the Staubli Electrical Connectors product page). Torque values, IR test voltage, and MΩ pass limits must be taken from the connector-specific OEM datasheet revision listed in the inspection dossier, not from generic references. For PV modules, families include LONGi Hi-MO 5 / Hi-MO 6, Jinko Tiger Neo, and Trina Vertex S+. For inverters, families include Sungrow SG string inverters, Huawei SUN2000, and Growatt MIN/MID. For mounting, K2 Systems SingleRail / SolidRail kits are commonly paired. Exact model and manual revision are recorded per shipment in TORQUE_IR_log.csv.
IR test voltage of 500 V DC or 1000 V DC and the pass threshold in MΩ must match the OEM manual revision recorded for the lot. Generic "IEC reference values" are not used in the dossier; the operator records the standard designation (e.g. IEC 62446-1:2016, clause 6) plus the test voltage and the measured MΩ in TORQUE_IR_log.csv. This is treated as a model assumption until the OEM manual revision is attached.
The file naming below must be respected so that all parties — broker, forwarder, OEM service desk — can locate the artefacts inside the shared drive. File names are case-sensitive.

Disclaimer. HS codes and duty rates are placeholders pending verification against the official EU TARIC database via the consultation tool at ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dds2/taric/taric_consultation.jsp?Lang=en. The re-export or scrap classification must be confirmed by the appointed customs broker for each movement. If a pallet is scrapped, the WEEE operator of record handles the equipment under Directive 2012/19/EU (WEEE Directive). The handover is recorded in WEEE_HANDOVER.pdf. No claim is made on this page that Tradvolt is a WEEE compliance scheme operator; the named WEEE operator on the dossier is the responsible party. Source: EUR-Lex — Directive 2012/19/EU.
This page does not assert that Tradvolt holds any of the certifications above. Cert numbers and issuing bodies are not stated because none apply to this operator page; the standards are cited as the documentary references the dossier must record, not as endorsements.
A reverse means the DC-string is opened, inspected, and either returned to origin, reworked on site, or scrapped as WEEE under Directive 2012/19/EU. A pure re-routing of an untouched shipment is not a reverse in the sense of R14.
The OEM-trained technician signs the form (CMF-R14), and the QA lead counter-signs it. Both names go into DECISION_MEMO_R14.pdf.
Yes. If only one pallet fails the IR test, the others can be reworked while the failing pallet is moved to the WEEE stream. The decision memo must list per-pallet outcomes.
No. The builder removes the tag after gating is verified.
Use the RFQ button on this page, which points to tradvolt.com/rfq/. Tradvolt coordinates the corridor but does not act as a customs broker itself.
No. The "R14" suffix is an internal operator-process revision label, not a certification. No third-party endorsement, "No.1" ranking, or review claim is made.
This page belongs to the corridor process suite and is reviewed whenever a new corridor protocol revision is published. The filename suffix _R14 is part of the filename contract; changes between revisions are tracked in the change-log file referenced by the forwarder.
No downloadable PDF is offered on this page. The checklist is delivered as a working artefact inside the dossier (CMF_R14_v3.xlsx) after an RFQ is opened, not as a public download.
