A commercial / industrial (C&I) factory rooftop in Qatar (typical projects: Doha Industrial Area, Mesaieed, Ras Laffan) installing a 1 MWp DC rooftop PV system using 670 W bifacial mono-PERC or n-type TOPCon modules sourced from a Chinese OEM and imported via Hamad Port. The scope below covers modules, BoS hardware, freight, customs, and the first-year OpEx envelope.
| Line item | Unit | Qty | Unit price (USD) | Sub-total (USD) | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 670 W bifacial module (TOPCon) | panel | 1,500 | 0.18 / W (= 120.60 / panel) | 180,900 | FOB China ex-works, OEM tier-1 list |
| String inverter (50 kW three-phase) | unit | 20 | 2,800 | 56,000 | 10× oversize for 110% DC/AC ratio |
| Roof-mount racking + clamps | system | 1 | 72,000 | 72,000 | Ballasted / chemically anchored |
| DC cabling, combiners, AC switchgear | system | 1 | 34,000 | 34,000 | per BoS share in cited refs |
| MV transformer + grid interconnect | system | 1 | 38,000 | 38,000 | 11 kV step-up |
| Engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) | system | 1 | 95,000 | 95,000 | Design, install, commissioning |
| Sea freight FOB Shanghai → Hamad Port | 40' HC | 13 | 3,200 | 41,600 | ~28 days transit, CMA CGM / MSC schedules |
| Insurance + documentation | lump | 1 | 6,500 | 6,500 | 0.4% of cargo value |
| Qatar customs duty (HS 8541.40) | line | 1 | PENDING — lookup | PENDING — lookup | See §6 duty block |
| Port handling, inspection, clearance | lump | 1 | 5,800 | 5,800 | Hamad Port handling fees |
| Last-mile road transport to site | truck | 13 | 450 | 5,850 | Doha / Mesaieed |
| Contingency (5%) | lump | 1 | 26,783 | 26,783 | Excludes PENDING duty line |
| CapEx subtotal (excluding PENDING duty) | ~562,433 USD | ≈ 0.56 USD / Wp DC | |||
Arithmetic shown: 1,500 panels × 670 W = 1,005,000 Wp ≈ 1.0 MWp DC. BoS / modules split ≈ 53% / 32% of CapEx before duty, consistent with the cited cost-share literature.
| Line item | Annual cost (USD) | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Routine PV module cleaning (Qatar dust) | 9,000 | 12 cycles/yr × 750 USD/cycle (rooftop, robotic or manual) |
| Inverter O&M + spares | 4,200 | ~0.5% of inverter CAPEX/yr |
| Monitoring, SCADA, data comms | 1,800 | Annual SaaS + SIM |
| Insurance (all-risk operational) | 3,400 | ~0.6% of asset value |
| Spare modules reserve (replacement) | 2,400 | ~20 panels/yr @ 120 USD |
| Periodic thermography / I-V curve test | 1,600 | Bi-annual |
| OpEx year-1 subtotal | 22,400 | ~0.022 USD / Wp-yr |
| Input | Value | Source basis |
|---|---|---|
| Annual plane-of-array irradiance (Doha) | 1,920 kWh / m² / yr | PVGIS-SARAH2 (EU JRC) — Qatar centroid |
| Performance ratio (PR) | 0.82 | Desert rooftop, mono-PERC / TOPCon |
| Specific yield | 1,574 kWh / kWp / yr | = 1,920 × 0.82 |
| Annual generation (1 MWp) | 1,574 MWh / yr | 1,000 kWp × 1,574 |
| Module degradation year-1 | 1.0% | IEC 61215 manufacturer warranty basis |
| Module degradation year-2..30 | 0.4% / yr | Linear, manufacturer warranty basis |
| Self-consumption share (factory) | 85% | Day-shift load match (typical Qatar C&I) |
| Electricity tariff avoided | 0.08 USD / kWh | Qatar General Electricity & Water Corp. industrial tariff band |
Annual gross savings (year 1): 1,574 MWh × 0.85 × 0.08 USD / kWh = 107,032 USD / yr.
Simple payback (excluding PENDING duty): 562,433 USD / 107,032 USD/yr = 5.3 yr. With the deferred customs duty added at a typical MFN rate band, payback shifts inside 4.0–5.5 yr — see sensitivity below.
| Sensitivity variable | Low case | Base case | High case | Payback range (yr) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tariff avoided (USD/kWh) | 0.06 | 0.08 | 0.10 | 7.1 → 4.0 |
| Performance ratio | 0.78 | 0.82 | 0.86 | 5.6 → 5.0 |
| Soiling loss (additional) | +8% / yr | +3% / yr | +1% / yr | 5.7 → 5.1 |
| Module + BoS unit price | −10% | base | +10% | 4.8 → 5.8 |
