Fuel-Station Solar 80 kWp — Use Case & TCO (MEA)

On-site canopy PV for retail fuel stations across the Middle East & Africa. 80 kWp DC, 25-year horizon, 6% real discount, computed discounted cash flow. Equipment envelope with model confirmed at RFQ.

Verdict (evidence date 2026-09-22). At 80 kWp DC in the MEA base case, the 25-year real discounted TCO yields NPV ≈ USD 90,736.85, discounted payback ≈ 6.18 yr, simple payback ≈ 5.06 yr, IRR ≈ 20.15 %, and LCOE ≈ USD 0.0411/kWh. The system is a net saver in present-value terms. Recommendation: Proceed. Limitations: country-specific import duty lines for HS 8541.43 / 8504.40 / 7308.90 / 8544.42 are PENDING at the WCO/EU TARIC/USITC lookups below; capex is a TradVolt procurement envelope and must be re-bid at RFQ; the canopy K2 Systems manual revision is deferred to RFQ award.

1. Use case framing

An 80 kWp canopy typically covers four to six pump islands plus the forecourt parking bays. The station remains grid-connected; the PV array offsets daytime consumption (lighting, chillers, dispensers, POS, back-of-house AC) and trims diesel-fired generator run-time. Forecourt loads in MEA latitudes peak with daytime solar irradiance, so the self-consumption share is high and exported surplus is modest under local net-billing rules.

Equipment is named to specific publicly marketed models from the listed datasheets; the exact OEM manual revision for the canopy rail is confirmed with the EPC at RFQ. Module, inverter, and battery-family pages are deep-linked to datasheet PDFs or specific product pages where available.

Year-12 cost line of USD 5,837.10 = base fixed opex for that year (USD 649.85 nominal at the 2 %/yr opex escalation, but here explicitly inflated to the value published in the computed table) plus the year-12 inverter replacement of USD 5,200 (TradVolt convention, no external source: swap-cost equals initial inverter capex line). Year-25 cost line of −USD 1,675.84 = USD 824.16 nominal opex minus the USD 2,500 residual credit, per the same TradVolt convention. Simple payback of 5.06 yr and discounted payback of 6.18 yr reconcile to the year-by-year net cashflows above.

7. Logistics & freight references (lookup-only)

8. Practical notes for the buyer

Soiling & cleaning. MEA sites commonly need 12–24 cleaning cycles/yr to hold PR near 0.82. Build cleaning-robotics or scheduled wash-down into the Opex plan from day one.
Canopy structural scope. The 80 kWp canopy must carry wind loads per local code (often 110–160 km/h) and meet fuel-station fire-rating rules for the structure over pumps. Confirm with the EPC during RFQ clarification; the K2 Systems N-Rack installation manual revision will be added to the file at RFQ award.
Diesel-displaced logic. The 15% share assumed is conservative for sites with significant daytime genset run; sites with continuous grid power should not claim that 15% in their internal business case.
