DG Cargo Booking & MSDS Pack — CN→ZM Corridor (LFP Vertical)
1. Scope and applicability
Decision: This SOP sets a 14-calendar-day door-to-door lead time from PO to site delivery for LFP lithium-ion DG shipments on the CN→ZM corridor. Shippers must compile 12 controlled documents (see §3) and operate within the binding framework of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods (21st revised edition), UN Manual of Tests and Criteria ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.7 §38.3, IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations current edition, IMO IMDG Code, Incoterms® 2020 (ICC publication 723E), the GHS 16-section Safety Data Sheet format, ZRA TaxOnline customs rules, and Zambia Standards (Compulsory Standards Agency) requirements. Lead time and document count are explicit so that Tradvolt and the buyer share the same planning baseline before booking.[Claim | Src: UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, 21st revised edition | URL: https://unece.org/transport/dangerous-goods/un-recommendations | accessed 2026-09-21][Claim | Src: UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.7, Part III §38.3 | URL: https://unece.org/transport/dangerous-goods/un-manual-tests-and-criteria | accessed 2026-09-21][Claim | Src: ICC Incoterms® 2020 (publication 723E) | URL: https://iccwbo.org/business-solutions/incoterms-rules/incoterms-2020/ | accessed 2026-09-21][Claim | Src: IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations programme (DGR) | URL: https://www.iata.org/en/programs/cargo/dgr/ | accessed 2026-09-21][Claim | Src: WCO Harmonized System Nomenclature 2022 edition | URL: https://www.wcoomd.org/en/topics/nomenclature/instrument-and-tools/hs-nomenclature-2022-edition | accessed 2026-09-21][Claim | Src: Zambia Revenue Authority TaxOnline portal | URL: https://www.zra.org.zm/taxonline/ | accessed 2026-09-21][Claim | Src: Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency | URL: https://www.ccsa.org.zm/ | accessed 2026-09-21][Claim | Src: FIATA (International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations) | URL: https://fiata.org/ | accessed 2026-09-21]

This SOP governs the door-to-door flow of dangerous goods (DG) cargo containing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells, modules or battery packs travelling on the China → Zambia trade corridor. The procedure covers classification under the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods (UN3480 standalone cells, UN3481 cells packed with or contained in equipment), Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS / SDS) compilation, IATA and IMO dangerous goods declarations, freight forwarder engagement and Zambia Revenue Authority customs clearance.
Only LFP cathode chemistry is in scope. Nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) and nickel-cobalt-aluminium (NCA) cells follow the parallel SOP dg-nmc-cargo-booking-cn-zm.html and require stricter packing group performance criteria owing to higher specific energy.
2. Equipment in scope (exact models)
The procedural limits in this SOP (SoC ≤30 % for air, Packing Group II outer-pack performance, thermal-runaway containment kit specification) are taken from the OEM manuals listed below. Where a manual revision is shown, that revision governs; later revisions override on the date of issue.

7. Risk and compliance notes
- Thermal runaway. LFP has higher thermal stability than NMC, but damaged cells still pose ignition risk. Inspection at Steps 4 and 11 is mandatory; transport kit per LUNA2000 manual §8.4 (600 °C / 30 min).
- State of charge (SoC) limits. Air transport of UN3480 standalone cells is restricted to SoC ≤ 30 % per IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations current edition, Section II / I. (Transport SoC window 10–30 % also reflects LUNA2000 manual §6.3 and US5000 manual §4.)[Claim | Src: IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations programme (DGR), Section II/I provisions for UN3480 | URL: https://www.iata.org/en/programs/cargo/dgr/ | accessed 2026-09-21]
- GHS 16-section SDS. All MSDS/SDS must follow the UN GHS "purple book" 16-section format; sections 1–16 must each be populated and signed within the supplier's 24-month revision cycle.[Claim | Src: UN GHS "purple book", 10th revised edition, 16-section SDS template | URL: https://unece.org/transport/dangerous-goods/ghs | accessed 2026-09-21]
- UN38.3 test summary. Each cell SKU must carry a current UN38.3 test summary per ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.7 Part III §38.3, tests T.1 through T.8.[Claim | Src: UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.7, Part III §38.3 (T.1–T.8) | URL: https://unece.org/transport/dangerous-goods/un-manual-tests-and-criteria | accessed 2026-09-21]
- Incoterms® 2020 split. CIF, CIP, DAP Lusaka and DDP Lusaka are the only ICC publication 723E terms Tradvolt accepts for this corridor; EXW and FOB require explicit buyer approval.[Claim | Src: ICC Incoterms® 2020 (publication 723E) | URL: https://iccwbo.org/business-solutions/incoterms-rules/incoterms-2020/ | accessed 2026-09-21]
